What one reviewer said about The Cask of Amontillado (Creative Classic Series) by Edgar Allan Poe, Byron Glaser:

E.A. Poe's work in "The Cask of Amontillado" is either hated or loved very much. Most people miss the entire point of this story. It is one of only a few stories, such as "Animal Farm" by G. Orwell, that if you read it over again, and again, you gain more insight into what is really happening. The most exciting section is the ending. When the question is answered. Why is Montressor telling this story? Poe sends your mind not only through the endeavours of a premeditated revenge but also transcends time at the end. I suggest after reading it, read the very last paragraph, sentence by sentence, in its entirety so you can grasp the power of the story.

Begins:

THE thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could ; but when he ventured upon insult, I vowed revenge. You, who so well know the nature of my soul, will not suppose, however, that I gave utterance to a threat. _At length_ I would be avenged ; this was a point definitively settled - but the very definitiveness with which it was resolved, precluded the idea of risk. I must not only punish, but punish with impunity. A wrong is unredressed when retribution overtakes its redresser. It is equally unredressed when the avenger fails to make himself felt as such to him who has done the wrong.

It was a great story. I love the way it analyzed people, how they still could be today. It interested many people at my school (Dooly County High)who read it. Keep up the good work.

The Cask of Amontillado was a favorite at my high school (North Mesquite High) and I really could see the feelings of the characters. To me, Edgar Allan Poe was a magnificent author and his mind still unknwn.

The Cask of Amontillado is a story in which can not be undestood from the first time you read it. In fact most of the people in my Adv. Lit class (Albright Middle School Houston, Tx.) are on the senior level in reading. The five principles of a short story prevented the clear understanding. Yet, a fear so great comes to you after you can understand, because people can still think like Montressor and seek to kill. Maybe, we will all apreciate are armed forces and police after reading this.

The book is all Revenge, it's not good if u are vengeful. i like the book, it's so fascinating thanks
