Tune Tabs
Tablature is a time honoured way of preserving and passing along musical notation. Instead of the staved musical score, a more literal depiction of the instrument is used, drawing the finger positions for each note of the tune.
This has a drawback in that it's difficult to show the tempo and rhythm of each note, so here we've added the normal score as well. Along with the midi files this should put you in good stead. You may also find that it teaches you how to read regular musical scores.
At present we have tab collections for the following instruments:
- tin or penny whistle:
- diatonic or blues harp:
- mandolin
(also for tenor banjo and violin)
- guitar (standard tuning)
Finally, I've put a set of pages in here for cello players. In the interests of simplicity (for myself, not my poor fellow cello players), I've kept them in the same keys. It would have been easier to play many of these tunes if they'd been transposed to a C instrument friendly key, but then we wouldn't be able to play along with our fiddly friends, would we. So, kind of tacked on the end of the TAB section are the tunes for cello
